Albee Beach, Wolfeboro

Rich set up his summer to get out of work at 3 on Thursdays, meaning Thursday is pretty much swim day. On the advice of our friend Reinert, we gave Albee Beach in Wolfeboro (on Lake Wentworth) a shot.
It was a decent spot and we had hours of fun throwing the B and a football we found on shore. We even laid the foundation for what would be officially created on Saturday, the best and worst game ever, Headball (stay tuned).

The good: Quality beach/picnic table area, tons of parking, very fine sand, nice views, free

The bad: The rules say you have to stay in the roped off swimming area, which I imagine on a busy day would become VERY crowded, there were 2 lifeguards there for nearly the entirety of our stay (for like 8 people total, come on), the sand is SO fine that it feels mucky and gross in any area that isn't highly trafficked (anywhere towards the left, where we were of course), the deeper you go, the muck levels increase to an uncomfortable level (obviously this is how it is everywhere, but its extra mucky here).

Overall, a solid place that was really nice once the other people left, but probably too small and constrained for me to want to go back.

If you enlarge this picture, you can see that that tiny dot way out is actually Rich. He was proving that Lake Wentworth isn't a very deep lake.

Towards the end of our swimming session, Rich needed to hop on this boat and save someone that was drowning. What a hero.

On the way through Wolfeboro, we saw this sweet building with a tank busting through it. We are 10 year olds, so we decided to make a spectacle of ourselves in front of all passing traffic. Look at how sweet my shorts are!

Rich, ready to blow stuff up.

I got crushed.

Then Josh did.

And Rich did too. We're all over 30.

This was the scene across from the building. I'd never been to Wolfeboro before, and I gotta say, I'm a fan. It's got a nice, small town, lakes-region feel, but it feels richer and prettier than some of the surrounding areas. Lots of trees and lawns. Nice.

Then we hit up Johnson Seafood and Steak in New Durham, and had a pretty solid meal with an oddly good waitress. My meal was ok, but our potato skins appetizer may be the best I've had, and the completely unnecessary Moose Tracks frappe I had for dessert was phenomenal.

We discussed trying to swim in all of the lakes in the "Lakes region" this summer. Should we do that?

  2. yeah hike some 4000 footers while your at it. ZING!

goals are good but dont set goals for the sake of setting goals. otherwise you just end up with way too many goals that never get accomplished. That can be demoralizing at times.

But I would say running a 4000ft'er goal in tandem with swimming every lake in central NH goal is doable. Hike a mountain take a dip...repeat.

  3. ahah dude I'm the king of making goals that never happen. It's something to live for!
But yea, I see no reason why we couldn't swim in every lake.
4000 footer goal is on, I am looking to attempt #1 tomorrow unless the heat scares me away
